When I started adding weekly hill workouts to my running schedule a few months ago I was running up to 6,7 or maybe 8% and keeping my pace pretty slow. After a few months of training, I’m now running at 7.0mph on 14%! Okay, it’s only for 15 seconds, but I have seen a huge improvement in my speed and endurance. I’m running faster for longer and at a steeper incline! I’m super excited to race in two weeks and see what I can do on a flat route.
Here is the hill workout I did on the treadmill yesterday. It’s pretty similar to my Just 18 Little Hills workout from last week, except with this workout, you will be running through the resting intervals. This is quite tough, it’s amazing how awesome you can feel running at 7.0mph on a 10% incline and then a short 20 seconds it becomes incredibly difficult, legs on fire, hard work.
I ran the first 5 hills at 7.0 mph until I had to drop it down to 6.5 for a few more, and eventually 6.0 to finish.
I always write my workouts out before hand, so I know exactly what I’m going to be doing. If I head to the gym without a plan, it never turns out well. I end of with an aimless, pieced together workout and not much focus to complete it with. I’d reccommend quicly jotting down your workouts before you go and bringing it with you so you know what you’re doing and stick to it. It doesn’t have to be elaborate, as you can see from my notes!
Today was hiking and yoga day, I love Saturdays! We’re always up early, grabbing weekend coffees and heading out to enjoy beautiful Vancouver. Today we went out to Lighthouse Park in West Vancouver and trekked around for a few hours with the dogs. I also went to a 2 hour chi yoga and active meditation class, but more about that another day.
Okay, kids. Bedtime I think. 13k run bright and early for us and an evening Yin Yoga class for me!! I’ll leave you with a few beautiful words I came across today, then I gotta hit the hay! (ooh that rhymed, yay!)
“If you love, you will find so many occasions to be loving. If you are afraid, you will find some many occasions to be afraid.” Osho
“When an individual has achieved complete understanding of her true self, she will no longer be disturbed by the distracting influences within and around her.” -Yoga Sutras of the Patanjali
“Today isn’t just another day, today I’ll create something beautiful.” -Unknown
