One of my favourite things to do in Vancouver is to go out to eat at one of the many vegetarian and vegan restaurants we have to choose from. With so many wonderful, healthy and unique restaurants, choosing where to eat in Vancouver is always a fun adventure!
I thought I might share some of my experiences here on the blog so you can have a chance visit these restaurants too! Today I’m sharing one of my favourite spots to grab a quick, healthy, raw vegan lunch in downtown Vancouver, BC: Gorilla Food.
Locations: 436 Richards St (Richards and Pender) and 477 Powell St. (Powell and Jackson)
Cuisine: Organic Raw Vegan
Menu: Smoothies, juices, pizza, zoodles, “nyce” bowls, burgers, sandwiches and a selection of desserts and pre-packed items to go (View the Menu)
Hours: 9:00 am – 9:00 pm everyday at the Richards St. location, 11:00 am – 6:00 pm everyday at the Powell St. location
Price: $$, Smoothies and juices range from $8-9 and meals range from $8-12
The Gorilla Food on Richards is a small, casual restaurant found down a short set of stairs off the street. It’s very relaxed and cozy, and the staff are friendly and helpful. Grab a seat and a menu from the front, and then go up to the till to order your food.
Grab your own water and cutlery from beside the till while your wait for your meal. You can also peruse the store copy of the Gorilla Food cookbook for an idea of what to expect. They’ll bring your food out to you when it’s ready.
I really enjoy the “nyce” bowls, the “rice” being made from finely chopped veggies. All 3 varieties are really good and flavourful, but my favourite is the Green Curry “Nyce” Bowl. At $12 I think they’re reasonably priced considering the quality of ingredients being used. They’re very filling and are almost hard to finish, which is always surprising for a bowl of raw food! The portions may seem on the smaller side, but trust me, it’ll be more than enough! You’ll be stuffed and satisfied, but full of energy when you’re done!
Their sandwiches are huge and make a great lunch. They really pack them full of fillings, so prepare to get a little messy! The Olive and Love Fresh Veggie Wraps are good, as is the Pesto Primo Pizza and the Bonobos Carnival Sandwich. Get the Curry Squash Bread, it’s delicious. If you’re an open-minded omnivore, raw foodie, vegan, vegetarian, or just enjoy quality, healthy food, I would highly recommend visiting Gorilla Food in beautiful downtown Vancouver. When you get a chance to check them out, let me know what you think!
Oh, and after your lunch or dinner, if you’re not too stuffed from all the raw vegan food, head just down the block on Pender to Cartems Donuterie and get gluten-free vegan donut for dessert! I can’t help you choose one, they’re all amazing!
