This nutrient guide and cookbook is approachable for non-vegans without being made to feel bad for not sticking to a regimented plant-only diet. It never feels preachy or like a lecture, Deryn just gives the information in a positive and delicious way, along with methods to approach changing your diet in a reasonable and healthy way. Are the recipes vegan?

Yes, all of the recipes in this book are vegan.

Are the recipes plant-based/whole food plant-based?

Yes, all of the recipes are plant-based and almost everything is whole food plant-based. You will find a small amount of oil used for cooking in some recipes but there’s the option to omit it. There are some coconut oil-based desserts but plenty that are oil-free as well.

Are the recipes gluten-free?

Almost every recipe is gluten-free except for a couple pancake recipes but those can easily be made gluten-free by using a GF flour blend. I use soy sauce sometimes but than can be replaced by gluten-free tamari and some of the recipes contain oats so just make sure you use GF-certified oats, if needed.

Do the recipes have nutrition facts included?

Every recipe includes the calories, carbohydrates, fats, protein and fibre content.

Do the recipes contain hard to find ingredients?

Nope, they sure don’t. I’m a lazy cook and don’t typically buy things out of the ordinary. Everything I cook with is your everyday, basic, plant-based foods: whole grains, nut, seeds, vegetables and legumes.

Do the recipes call for a lot of ingredients?

Most are very simple and easy to make in 20-40 minutes or less. Some have longer ingredients lists but are still made with basic ingredients you most likely already have on hand.

Will I be bored?

There is a large variety of meals from sweet and savory breakfasts to soups, curries, stews, drinks, noodles, salads, buddha bowls, burgers, snacks and sweets so I don’t think so!

Will I be satisfied eating plant-based?

Heck ya! Not only does the book contain 160 plant-based recipes but it also covers plant-based nutrition such as macros, micros, protein, meal prep, how to make salads and buddha bowls, easy snack ideas and so much more! It’s a cookbook AND guide so it contains everything you need to enjoy a satisfying, healthy plant-based lifestyle.

Will it be expensive?

Nope. The bulk of a plant-based diet is all budget-friendly foods like legumes, whole grains and vegetables. There is also a section in the book that covers everything you need to know about healthy eating on a budget.

Can I get all the nutrition I need through a plant-based diet?

The short answer is yes as long, as long as you get B12 from either a supplement, fortified foods, or both. The longer answer is yes but it does take effort, planning and commitment to a balanced, whole food diet. The book covers exactly how to get everything you need while eating a plant-based diet. We will cover how to get enough calcium, iron, iodine, omega-3, vitamin D and more.

Will I get enough protein?

I train 5 days a week for 2 hours plus have an active lifestyle that includes running, walking, hiking, yoga, biking and more. I’ve never struggled to maintain muscle mass and increase strength on a plant-based diet but you really need to look no further than the high-level athletes in sports from football to boxing, rubgy to triathlon and you can see that athletes have no problem succeeding eating plants. The book covers how to get enough protein in a plant-based diet in more details.

Will I receive a printed version of this book?

No, this is a digital ebook only. Some people like to print out their favourite recipes or have sections of the book printed and bound at a local or online print shop such as Staples.

Will my family like the recipes?

Many of the recipes in the book have been made 100’s of times with 5-star reviews and are kid and husband-approved!
