Homemade Larabars

I pretty much always a base of dates in these bars. Dates are the perfect sweet food and though they’re high in natural sugar with also pack a ton of nutrition too. The health benefits of these little guys are many but they’re particularly high in fibre, calcium, iron, potassium, magnesium and B vitamins.

They also make an awesome, low-calorie pre-workout snack due to their natural sugars. If you can’t do dates, you can use soaked dried raisins or figs as an alternative. Pour boiling water over them in a bowl and soak for 15 minutes before using.

Energy Bar Variations

I’m sure most of you have heard of, if not tried, a Larabar. They’re fantastic vegan, natural bars that use simple, whole ingredients and they’re a cinch to make at home. In addition to the cup of dates I usually use 1 cups of nuts and then add in whatever you like such as raisins, dark chocolate, dried cranberries, coconut, cacao nibs, lemon zest, almond butter or whatever flavour add-ins you choose!

Whether you purchase Larabars or make you own energy bars at home both are an excellent alternative to other store-bought bars that are full of preservatives, added sugar and other unnecessary ingredients.
