Well hello everybody! I just finished the Vancouver Sun Run and I’ll talk about that in another post but I wanted to quickly share my post-run meal. Now I don’t know about you guys but I don’t usually have much of an appetite after running and this makes smoothies the perfect way to recover. You can pack a lot of nutrition into them but it doesn’t feel like you’re eating a huge meal. Here is what I had about an hour after finishing my race today.
Peanut Butter Berry Post-Run Recovery Shake
- 2 cups unsweetened vanilla almond milk
- 5 g North Coast Naturals Fermented L-Glutamine
- 1 cup frozen raspberries
- 1/2 cup frozen blueberries
- 1 scoop North Coast Naturals Ultimate Daily Greens
- 2 tbsp North Coast Naturals Organic Hemp Protein
- 2 tbsp natural peanut butter
Blend all ingredients on high until smooth and enjoy! I topped it with a few hemp seeds just for good measure! This makes a pretty huge shake, it should probably serve 2 people, not just one. I’m starting to get really full but I’ll finish it all anyways! Ha! This is lunch and breakfast for me, my stomach never feels great on race days so I probably won’t eat again until we have an early dinner.
This shake offers lots of nutrients to help the body recover. You’ve got the fermented l-glutamine to help the body start to repair muscle tissue, lots of protein from the hemp protein and peanut butter and plenty of carbs from the fruit. Add the hit of antioxidants and vitamins from the daily greens and you can’t really ask for much more! Plus the taste isn’t too shabby either!
I hope if you were racing today you had a great time! The spirit in Vancouver today was fantastic and even the sun came out to cheer us on.
