Anything that is going to make healthy eating easier for people is a win in my books so I’m excited to share some new fun products from Dole today! As part of my 2015 Dole Ambassadorship, I’ve had the opportunity to check out some of their new products and use them in my kitchen over the last few days.
The Chopped Pomegranate Salad Kit has been one of my favourites. Packed with healthy ingredients, it’s a restaurant-style salad you can enjoy at home in just minutes. With crispy lettuces and kale, crunchy shaved brussels sprouts and carrots, golden flaxseeds, as well as pomegranate-infused cranberries and Dole’s Pomegranate Vinaigrette, this salad is both nutritious and delicious.
There is also the new Chopped Poppy Seed Salad Kit which combines a healthy crunch along with a kick of sweetness. The salad features sweet cranberries, roasted pepitas, brussels sprouts, cabbage, romaine, kale, carrots, green onions and Dole Poppyseed with Greek Yogurt Dressing. The dressing in this kit isn’t vegan so if you’re eating dairy-free, simply make your own dressing and you’re all set! A simply dijon vinaigrette or creamy tahini dressing would be perfect.
If you eat a plant-based diet like me and are eating the Chopped Poppy Seed or Pomegranate Salad Kit as a meal, you could always add some crispy tofu, chickpeas or lentils to boost the protein content and make them a bit more substantial.
Next up is the new Dole Take Aways, now these are kinda fun and make it easy to enjoy salad anytime, anywhere. They come ready with a fork in a recyclable box that is also the bowl! All 4 varieties are gluten-free, one is vegan, one is vegetarian and two come with chicken.
There’s the Take Aways Chicken Caesar, the Santa Fe Fresca, the Mediterranean Feast and the Harvest Chicken. You just open it up, dump everything into the bowl, shake and enjoy! Then you can recycle the bowl and fork afterwards.
I tried the Santa Fe Fresca, a hearty mix of Dole Romaine and Kale paired with a medley of red rice, quinoa, black beans, corn, Smoky Chipotle Vinaigrette and a Fire Roasted Tomato finishing sauce. It comes in at 300 calories, 9 grams of protein and 7 grams of fibre and offers a good dose of vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin K,folate, calcium, iron and manganese.
Dole is also now offering celery hearts. Now celery might not seem all that exciting, I mean, it’s mostly just water, right? Well, that may be true but it’s also naturally fat-free, cholesterol-free, low in sodium and a good source of vitamin A, vitamin K and folate. Celery is always a staple in my kitchen, it makes a great snack with peanut butter and raisins or dipped in hummus and I use it in a lot of different recipes too.
I’ll be using mine up in a crunchy quinoa and roasted butternut squash salad this week, a recipe that will be coming to the blog very soon! In the meantime, you can check out this recipe for a Chopped Celery Hearts Salad or Celery Hearts Waldorf Salad on the Dole website.
