It’s Sunday evening again somehow, where does the time go! I just wanted to share a quick recap of my week of workouts and plans for the upcoming week so here you go!
My workouts this week:
Monday: 11km Outdoor Run
Tuesday: Leg & Core Superset Workout
Thursday: Upper-Body Strength Training
Friday: Up and Up Hill Workout
Saturday & Sunday: Active Rest
It was so beautiful in Vancouver on Saturday I opted for a long walk with the dogs rather than my usual power yoga class. It was a gorgeous, sunny spring-like morning and I wanted to enjoy it while it lasted. We spent about an hour and a half over 6 km enjoying the beautiful West End. All that sunshine made me so excited for spring and summer!!
As far as the goals I set out for myself last week, I did okay. I drank at least 3L of water everyday as planned, I completed an 11km run + 1 Hill Workout + 1 Speed Workout and I got in 2 strength training workouts. I didn’t do very well for trying new recipes because I didn’t make it to the grocery store, so it was a pretty boring week of meals, healthy, but boring.
The one goal I didn’t even come the slightest bit close to completing, or even starting for that matter, was getting back into a daily yoga practice in the AM. I’ve been staying up to late working on the blog which has lead to pressing snooze every morning. I normally go to bed at 10pm, but lately it’s been as late at 11:30pm, which definitely isn’t enough sleep for me. I’ll have to try to get to bed earlier this week, I need at least 8 hours or I can’t seem to get myself out of bed in the morning, let alone make it to the yoga mat. I will re-attempt this week!
I finally got around to getting a few groceries. It was just a quick shop, I just picked up enough veggies for lunch and dinner for the next few days. I have some organic field greens in the fridge I need to use up, so it will be big salads for lunch for the next few days. I’ve got a big bag of quinoa as well, so tomorrow I’m going to try a new recipe for vegan Sweet Potato Quinoa & Kale Cakes. They look awesome! It will be good to have a big batch on hand to add to salad or a side of vegetables for added protein. I’m also going to make a batch of beet chips and some roasted chickpeas because I love snacking and I’m much better off eating beets and chickpeas versus store-bought potato chips! Stay tuned for the recipes this week! (Crispy Baked Beet Chips and Crunchy Roasted Chickpeas. Yum!)
Here is the plan for my upcoming week of workouts:
Monday: Upper-Body Strength Training
Tuesday: Speed Work on the Treadmill (3 x 1 mile)
Thursday: Hill Run
Friday: Strength Train
Saturday: Power Yoga or Hiking (Active Rest Day)
Sunday: 10 km Outdoor Run
I’m starting my half-marathon training plan this week, I’ll mainly be following the schedule for long runs on the weekends. This week is only 10k, then it slowly builds up to 21km over the next 17 weeks. You can check out the plan I’ll be following here. I will still only be running 3 x per week which is very manageable for me and allows time for my other workouts and some yoga. I’m actually really loving running lately and can’t wait to keep training. It’s only 5 weeks until my first race of the year. I can’t wait to race and see where I’m really at!
I also picked up some new cruelty-free products from Avalon Organics on the weekend. I can’t wait to try them tomorrow! Their products are also made without synthetic fragrances, phthlates, harsh sulfates or parabens. Sometimes people forget that what we put on our body is just as important for what we put in our body. Most major brands do test on animals so it can be hard to find products that aren’t, especially at the big box stores (I got these at London Drugs). You can search for companies and products that do and don’t test on animals on PETA: Beauty Without Bunnies.
I didn’t have the healthiest weekend of eating, I ate out twice and went out for drinks on Saturday night so I’m looking forward to re-setting with a super, healthy week of clean eating. On Saturday night, my husband and I had tickets to a concert and the whole night ended up being a bit of a screw-up. We were super excited to see Gramatik, one of our favourite DJs, who was finally coming to Vancouver to play a sold-out show. The venue ended up being oversold, the police came because they were over-capacity and we couldn’t get in, even though we bought tickets way in advance. I’m pretty bummed we missed it, especially since we heard him coming on and they weren’t letting any one else in, plus they had been selling more tickets at the door – so people that came early were able to go in and people that bought tickets in advance weren’t. Thanks to Blueprint Events and The Electric Owl, we missed the show and may or may not get a refund. I’ve moved on, but I’m still sad I missed Gramatik, I was looking forward to that for months. Here are a few pictures of me from the weekend (pre-Gramatik upset of course!) – happy to be out of workout clothes!
Hope you all had a great week! Domino has the right idea, bed time! 🙂 Night!
